Mortem Vetus: Northern Lights

Thank you for purchasing Northern Lights. We hope you enjoy using this product, and this User Guide is intended to just help you get the most out of your purchase. Mostly, this guide will be covering the basic operation of the items included in the pack.

This pack is intended for use with Poser8 or newer, within the TerraDome2 environment.

For the purposes of this guide, we'll be using PoserPro 2014, but there is nothing we'll be doing that can't be done in Poser 8 and above.  And initially, pretty much everything is in default, except Render settings. Once you've installed the product, your new Northen Lights items will be in:
Runtime:libraries:Materials:! TerraDome2:Add-ons:NorthernLights

This pack is an add-on for TerraDome2, and requires TerraDome2 in order to work. TerraLuna2 is NOT required, but qw feel it compliments this product perfectly.

So to begin with, we want to load TerraDome2, and we're also going to load the TerraDome2 Sun, as well as TerraLuna2.
Before we start on the aurorae, we'll morph a bit of shape into our TerraDome2, to make everything a bit more interesting, so we're starting with the scene below in image1.

Image 1: TerraDome2 loaded and morphed.

Ok, so now we want to add our Northern Lights.

For this, we need to go to our "! TerraDome2" folder in Figures, and load TD2_Parametric. When this initially loads, it will have no materials on, and so will hide the sky, as we can see below in image2.

Image2; Parametric figure loaded.

Once the Parametric figure is loaded, make sure it is selected and then go to your materials library, and then to "! TerraDome2:Add-ons:NorthernLights:" and load an aurora of choice.

Image3: Load an aurora

Aurorae are best viewed in the dark for the most spectacular effects, so in a moment, we'll let darkness descend. As we mentioned earlier, we loaded the TerraDome2 Sun, just so we could see what we're doing and then when we need darker conditions, we only have one light to turn off. So select the Sun from lights, and proceed to turn it off. This will darken your preview greatly, as we can see in image4 below.

Image4: Lights out!

However, when this renders, the moonlight becomes more apparent.

For extra moody atmosphere, we've loaded the Water figure, as well as applying 'CloudyHaze' to the Atmosphere. When this all renders, we get the image shown below.

We hope you enjoy using this product and we look forward to seeing what images you make with it.

Happy Rendering
