TerraNova1 - Moorlands

Thank you for purchasing TerraNova1. We hope you enjoy this product, and appreciate any feedback you may have.

This pack is intended for use with Poser8 and newer, though we would recommend Poser9 and newer for best results.

For the purposes of this guide, we'll be using PoserPro 2014, but there is nothing we'll be doing that can't be done in Poser 8 and above.  And initially, pretty much everything is in default, except Render settings.

O
nce you've installed the product, your new TerraNova1 items will be in:
Runtime:Libraries:Materials:! TerraDome2:Terrain - Moorland

So to begin with, we want to load TerraDome2, and get a decent selection of morphs on it. We also want to make some adjustments to our Main Camera, as detailed in the TerraDome2 User Guide pdf. We're going to use a focal length of 30mm for a nice wide field of view, and we're going to set the yon value to 3000, to stop anything disappearing out the back of shot.

We've also set our Document Window Size to 960x540. We find this size to give nice renders for TerraDome2 and landscape images.

We've loaded a selection of the available morphs, and created some terrain as shown in image 1 below, which looks rather non-descript without any textures on it.

So lets get some materials on this scene. Your new Moorlands textures are in among all the other TerraDome2 materials, under Terrain - Moorlands. We're going to start at the beginning and use Moorland-01 material, and we're going to apply it to Azone and BzoneLg, as we can see in image 2 below.

Image2: Moorland-01 material applied

Ok, in preview it doesn't look anything special, in fact it looks a bit low res and pixel-y. But, let's see what happens when we render this up, which we can see in image 3 below.

Image3: Moorland-01 rendered

Aah, now that's better, not only can we see our nice sharp detail, but if we look at the grass it's actually standing up off the ground.

Different materials will give you different grass lengths, and densities. Some are quite thick, while others are sparse and patchy.

Note: The displaced grasses look best up close. They are intended for use around a character, rather than at great distance. They can be used at distance, but as the maximum length of grass is 30cm (1 ft) once you draw away a bit, you see less of that height.

So let's add to our scene a bit. In image 4 above, we've turned the camera little, and added an atmosphere from our AtmosFears pack.

In image 5 below, we've added water, plus one of Traveler's old Castle Construction Kit towers and his old Log Bridge. (These may have been made for Poser 4, but they work wonderfully in PP2014) Now it's getting there.

Image 5: Adding to the scene.

Lastly we're going to add a character to the foreground. For this we're using our Templar.  And I'd pretty much call that done. While there might be very slight changes to lights, pose and positioning, they would be very minor and that is essentially the finished image.

Try out the various materials and get used to what they look like close up and from far away.

We hope you enjoy using this product and we look forward to seeing what images you make with it.

Happy Rendering
